If you're looking for Dungeons and Dragons this is as close as you're going to get its a cute game that makes DnD simple your stats are your probability of having a good roll events and happenings can happen at any time failure is normal (it literally tells you that before the main menu) It comes with multiple play modes and is tons of fun for up to 3 players it has a large amount of information to take in very quickly though.. This is a near perfect game, for the right audience. The clear passion and talent of the developers shown in this game is worth the purchase alone.. First of all For The King is a very solid strategy rpg. I read some top reviews claiming this game is punishing to newbies. So upon purchase I was expecting to get whipped. However, this was not the case, in fact on the recommended starting difficulty it wasn't really all that challenging to complete on the first try but still definitely tested me (they recommend starting on the easiest difficult). I personally wouldn't say a casual gamer would have the easiest time just picking this up in all honesty. Though If you have any experience with either rpgs or strategy games you should be fine. The ProsThe art style is very unique (some may not like it understandably).Tons of replay value!Well thought out mapping makes for exciting exploration via land, air, sea and even portals! Many options in terms of character building when it comes to equipment.A large amount of enemy types that keep you on your toes.Does require you to use your brain! May seem like an odd pro but I find some games these days are somewhat brain dead. Its refreshing to play a game that makes you have to plan your moves and use your head. The ConsMusic is just average. Really nothing memorable.A minor grip for me is no skill trees or skills that one can acquire. It can make the character classes feel a bit one-dimensional. luckily, the vast array of skills from the weapons does assist in making this less of an issue.Wait does this game have RNG? Doesn't feel like it, it almost feels calculated. The game appears to have a bias towards the CPUs you face. They almost never and I mean NEVER mess up a roll. While you with a 95% chance of successfully pulling off your move you somehow miss! The game just says NOPE GET OUTTA'ER! It can feel a little unfair in this regard. The verdict 7.75 out of 10 For me the pros out weigh the cons and make for an enjoyable experience. Not a fantastic game but certainly good.. what a turd.....must be paid reviews. STAY AWAY. I understand RNG but this is ridiculous. This may be my first negative review. Awful game mechanics. I wonder how people recommend this game.. Awesome game. It looks simple and childish, but is not it is very engaging and deep enough to be easy to pick up hard to master. Don't expect a great story (there is a plot to drive things), but this isn't about the story it is about tactical turn based combat. I have seem to many complaints about RNG sucks etc.. It is a board game type system with 'dice' and yes it will screw you over, BUT with patience and practice it can be minimized. I have played way more than the time listed probably 20-30 hours and I have yet to make a full run of the first scenerio on the first difficulty. The game includes 5 scenerios with various difficulties for each. The rogue-like nature is very well done unlocking all kinds of things from characters to put in your team to adding events to the map. On sale it is a steal and well worth the full price. This is my second copy for my son. And last but not least remember it is all 'FOR THE KING !". I have played this game on PC and on Xbox, spending the large majority of time on the latter platform. However, both games play very much the same. For the King is a semi-roguelike TBS RPG. I really enjoy the game, though on the Xbox the Lore unlock for the pool that lets you teleport causes a hard game crash every time you try to use it. And there are other random hard crash bugs on that platform as well. However, I haven't yet encountered that problem on the PC.Take your time, keep your party somewhat together, make sure to take out Chaos and Scourges as soon as you can and you'll have a chance to get far in the game, but don't expect to win on your first time out. Party Heal really helps, and the starting party of Blacksmith, Hunter, and Scholar is really quite well balanced. I've tried other combinations but keep returning to that one.The multiplayer elements are also quite fun and recommend trying them out.
